This intoxicating and visually rich volume with texts by experts from India, Europe, and North America is published to accompany a major exhibition that celebrates the long historical contributions that Indian dress, textiles, and embroidery have had on Western fashion. From the introduction of chintz dressmaking fabrics in the eighteenth century to the early nineteenth-century vogue for light Indian fabrics, paisleys, and chikan embroideries to larger realities of empire and cultural appropriation, this volume features paintings, fashion magazine editorials, and portraits of influential people who championed Indian style throughout history. Traditional hues of brilliant royal blue, marigold, and fuchsia; intricate ikat and calico patterns; and sumptuous textiles enliven every page. Archival and contemporary fashion stories include kaleidoscopic images by photographers such as Henry Clarke in Udaipur in 1967, Arthur Elgort in Jaipur in 1999, and Mikael Jansson in Goa with Indian actress Lakshmi Menon in 2011. Traditional Indian embroidery techniques; design motifs; and dress forms such as saris, jodhpurs, and turbans are reimagined by renowned designers Paul Poiret, Elsa Schiaparelli, Pierre Balmain, Zandra Rhodes, Halston, Yves Saint Laurent, Oscar de la Renta, Gianni Versace, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Alexander McQueen, in addition to a wealth of contemporary Indian designers.
Capturing the romance and beauty of la dolce vita, this volume features intimate and rare moments of Veruschka, the iconic face of 1960s glamour, from the forgotten and unpublished photographic archive of Johnny Moncada. When fashion photographer Johnny Moncada unlocked a trunk he had left sealed for forty years, he and his daughter discovered ten thousand of his unpublished negatives. They revealed the world of 1960s Italian fashion in all its languid glamour, personified by the iconic Veruschka. In three thousand images, Moncada captured the German-born model in both beautifully staged and informal poses. A selection of these photographs is presented in this lavish volume. They were taken over the course of a year in Rome, including seaside shoots in Capri, Sardinia, and other locales of la dolce vita. While serving as an invaluable source of inspiration to aficionados of 1960s style, Moncada's work also presents a rare glimpse of a young woman, known to friends as Vera, transforming in front of the camera into the image of perfection that we know as Veruschka.

'I see myself as a guardian of [Christian Dior's] spirit, a keeper of his dreams,' he added. The book unfolds chronologically, revisiting the most iconic creations and revealing previously unseen behind-the-scenes moments that capture models, hairdressers, stylists, make-up artists and John Galliano himself at their most creative. Featuring thirty years of acclaimed interiors, paired with thoughtful advice and packaged with a real cloth case and mixed paper stocks, A Point of View is a rich album of Grenney s decorating work, from London townhouses to Long Island estates, with multiple images per page. Organized by room, these chapters feature Grenney s room-by-room decorating philosophy for entrances, living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms, and kitchens, and explore thematic topics such as Englishness and composition and balance. Grenney also shares his own story, from his early years on the 70s London design scene to starting his own firm, from his first flat in London to his renovation of David Hicks former house, the Temple, to his new holiday house in Tangier. There is also a chapter on the iconic designers who have inspired him. Whether it s a country house or an urbane apartment, Grenney s world is one of settled calm and welcoming comfort, where there are always generous fireplaces to sit in front of, billiard rooms and stone-flagged passages, and utility rooms where boots and coats are stored; grandeur and modesty side by side. Through his long and crowded life, polyglot designer Federico Forquet has been by turns a couturier who learned his craft at Balenciaga s side and whose creations for his eponymous house clothed the best-dressed women of the day; a decorator of interiors of singular style and charm; a discriminating collector of rare and beautiful objects, furnishings, and pictures; and a creator of magical gardens. For the first time, the many worlds of this creative visionary are brought together in a richly illustrated celebration of style: from imagery of his lavish haute-couture gowns featured in 1960s and 70s Vogue, Harper s Bazaar, and other fashionable publications and worn by trendsetters such as Marella Agnelli, Sophia Loren, and Diana Vreeland to picturesque scenes of verdant Tuscan gardens and opulent, old-world Roman villas and palazzos decorated by Forquet. Accompanied by insightful texts from the design world s authoritative voices, this inspiring and utterly enchanting tome will appeal to readers fascinated by fashion, social history, gardens, interior design, and Italian style.
